Table of Aspect Frequency by Aspect Type

See this page for re-calculated figures for the study using noon at place of birth as opposed to noon GMT (used for calculations published in When Stars Collide )

You may have wondered why I have highlighted certain patterns. Here is part of the reason why - numerical and proportionate superiority - the patterns I have drawn attention to occur more often than we would expect by chance alone.

Table of two-degree Aspect Frequencies in 1300 Relationships (includes all natal aspects together with progressed aspects for the start-year/marriage year of the relationship)

This table shows that there is a > 30% difference ( 79 actual occurrences) between the 228 instances of two-degree Sun Venus squares and the 307 instances of two-degree Sun Venus trines in the 1300 relationships analysed in this study.

The progressed Venus natal Sun trine occurs 82 times giving a chi-square value of p=0.003 , while this is only suggestive of the fact that this figure is significant (it could be due to some anomaly or artefact in the sample), it does suggest that we are 99.7% certain that this figure is not due to chance. 1

The Sun Venus, Venus Mars and Sun Mars trines, squares, inconjuncts, sextiles and semi-sextiles should occur about 234.96 times if chance were the only factor. The conjunctions and oppositions of these planets should occur about 117.481 times. For single planet connections, such as Venus aspecting Venus, we should see 117.481 trines, squares, inconjuncts, sextiles and semi-sextiles and about 58.740 conjunctions and oppositions.

Squares should happen just as often as trines between random birth charts. But where Venus is concerned, they don't. In the case of Sun Venus aspects we have a good case for astrology (of course there may be another, less obvious, explanation).

In the case of Venus Mars aspects the case is weaker, but an interestingly similar pattern of numeric superiority is observed for trines. For Venus Venus, we still observe a numeric superiority for trines, but we appear to lose superiority and significance for conjunctions and oppositions. See When Stars Collide chapter 15 for more information on how the results for Venus Mars and Venus Venus aspects are actually much more significant than they appear here.

In my view, nothing, other than astrology, can account for the high incidence of natal Sun - progressed Venus trines and conjunctions (which occur at at rate of 82 and 46 respectively).

1 1300 / 360 x 8.1333333333333333333 x 2 = 58.740. Observed trines (82) - expected trines (58.740) = 23.26. Subtract 0.5 as a continuity correction = 22.76. 22.76 x 22.76 = 518.0176. 518.0176/58.740 = 8.81882. chi-square value = 8.818 with 1 degree of freedom p = 0.003.
